Social
Generally different cultures and nationalities are not viewed in a bad way. From the very beginning of the country's existence, it has been a multi-cultural country, because of the war. Gradually many people started to relocate to Fortem to start a new life bringing their unique culture and nationalities.
Foreigners
There are not really any ‘foreigners’ per se. There are tourists that visit Fortem all the time, but immigrants who now live in Fortem, are generally not seen as foreigners. People who don’t speak the main language of the canton are sometimes seen as ‘foreigners’ in a friendly way and are still accepted.
Anyone can live in the country, as long as they follow certain conditions. They need to have a steady job in the country, and have to be able to pay for accommodation, without any bank loans. They need to be able to speak one of the languages that are spoken in Fortem, and they need to fill out a specific paperwork and have their passports. Once they have the paperwork filled out, the government needs to check that they have either accepted a job offer, or that they are capable of finding a job in Fortem, by looking at their CV’s. If they do not have a job acceptance at a company, but still want to move to Fortem, the government has to see and make sure that they have enough money to pay for their own accommodation. By paying for a place to stay, the money has to come from them, and they cannot take a loan from the bank. This is a very strict rule, because if they have a loan from the bank at the very start, without even living in the country yet, it shows that they are not financially stable.
Fortem created its own currency when the country was created in the 20th century, which means that there is no peg. It is not tied to any other currency, which means that the currency is unpredictable. It could be a good exchange rate, but then a bad exchange rate a day later. Generally, it is not cheap to live there. General day-to-day foodstuffs are on par with other neighboring countries although luxury good like cars have a high import tax as Fortem would like to control number of vehicles on the road as well as help the environment.
The economy in Fortem has been increasing, ever since they have been exporting their agricultural goods, such as fruits and vegetables. However, rising prices of imported manufactured goods and currency rate fluctuations have caused the general cost of living to increase steadily.
Equality
There is equality in Fortem. It has been a high belief from the start, that both genders should have the same rights. Women get paid the same amount that men get paid for the same job. Both women and men are allowed to vote and they can vote individually.
