Welcome to the blog section of my website about my utopian country.
This is where I will refer back to the features section and explain what I chose for my country, why I chose it, how that idea makes the country utopian for me and how these different aspects and ideas link together to create Fortem.

I choose to leave lots of different aspects of our history. I left World War 2 the way it is, and just changed some things to make it make more sense, if there was actually a country called Fortem there. I choose to leave the history, because I think it is important to learn from the history. Some bad aspects had to happen to create what the world and Fortem is today, so even though World War 2 is terrible, and endangered the lives of millions of people, I still decided to leave it as part of the history for my utopia. People learn from their mistakes, and it is important to have it as part of the history, because it is a major factor in how Fortem was formed in the first place. The whole history links to what the country is now. The history is the prime foundation for the rest of the country, and if even one part of the history were different, it would change aspects of Fortem today.
I liked the idea of having multiple cultures in my country, so I decided to have a lot of different people form different countries in my country. I chose the languages Spanish, English, Italian, German and French that are mainly spoken in Fortem because those languages are spoken in countries that I visit often. I wanted to put all those languages together. This makes it a utopian country for me because it puts different people from different countries together in one country. It makes everyone know that they are equal and that you shouldn’t discriminate because of it.
I don’t want Fortem to be part of any armed conflict, as that defeats the purpose of a utopian country. There still is war, but Fortem remains to stay neutral. I don’t think it is necessary to go to war, but if your country gets invaded, you have to defend your country. I originally didn’t want Fortem to be allied with any country, because the allies are what actually dragged countries into conflict during WW1 & WW2 in the past. I ultimately decided to make Fortem allied with Switzerland as it is neutral. This positively impacts the safety of the population of Fortem, because no one wants to go to war with Fortem.
I don’t want Fortem to fight in the future either, so I made sure they stay neutral so it won’t really affect the country in the future if another war were to break out the area.
It took me a long time to think of the name Fortem. I wanted my Utopia to have a country name that actually meant something. I decided it made sense to have the name in Latin, because that is the language where Italian came from. Even now, as Fortem, the main language spoken is still Italian.
Fortem means “The Strong”. This represents that Fortem is a strong country, and is capable of being independent, without being part of Italy. I didn’t really think of how the flag has to look like. I didn’t have any preference, but I wanted some specific colours, because those also have their own meaning. (See here) All those colours that make up the country’s flag mean something, which is why I choose them. After I got the name Fortem, it did not take me long to think of a currency. The currency is called “Forte Numus”, which in Latin means strong currency or strong coin. I wanted it to have a meaning behind it, and again it made more sense to have it in Latin than Greek or any other language. This makes my country a utopian country for me, because it represents that everything is thoroughly thought through. It all has a meaning, which makes it a Utopia in its own way. I wanted to choose different colours from the Italian flag, because it makes the country more original and independent. I didn’t want them to be too similar. Location of Fortem
I chose to have Fortem in the Northern part of Italy. I liked this location, and it is a utopia for me, more because of personal preference rather than it having a certain meaning to it. But, with the location that I chose, it helped create the history, because it partly revolves majorly about its location. If Fortem was not located there, but somewhere else, it would change the history. It would change which countries some people came form to live in Fortem, and it could change if it was neutral or not. It could have had a major involvement in the war if it was located somewhere else. Natural resources I kept the natural resources the same as they are in real life, as to me there is a perfect balance. Climate I left the climate how it is in real life, because without the climate change, the temperatures in Europe are generally really nice. I prefer the weather in Europe, which is why I used it for my country. Geographic coordinates I measured the geographic coordinates from the SW side of Fortem to the NE side of Fortem, because those were the most spread out parts of the country. Area of Fortem I didn’t want Fortem to be too big, but also not as small as Switzerland. I also wanted Italy to still exist, so I decided to just take about a third of Italy and turn that in to Fortem. Environment Environmental issues are a reality, so I wanted to reflect it to my utopia. Even though it is not a positive thing and not really utopian, it shows that all the countries have to work together to try and save the environment. Everyone has to together to try and help save the planet. Every country has to think of their own ideas on how they could potentially help the environment, and try and do their part. I chose the democratic system for my utopian country, because I believe in freedom of choice and equality. I believe, that people should have the right to vote who should lead their country and how it is run. I do not like being dictated on what to do or how I should think. All citizens can vote from the age of 16, both male and female. I like that idea, because 16 year olds can take part in voting and trying to find ways to make my utopia better.
Economic system
I personally prefer capitalism as an economic system as it allows a free market for business free of government intervention. Currency I invented my own currency. I called it Forte Numus., which means strong currency or strong money in Latin. I wanted the currency to have a meaning. Since Italian originally came from Latin, the country should maintain their Latin heritage. I chose different ways the letter F and N is written, and ultimately decided to make the currency ḞṆ. The dots don’t really have a meaning, but I liked how it looked. Exchange rate I chose Fortem’s new currency 1 ḞṆ = 1 Euro when the country was created. GDP & GDP per capita To make it a utopian country, I wanted the GDP and the GDP to be quite high, to represent how rich and successful Fortem has become even though the country is relatively new. Population Based on the population of Italy and the geographical size of Fortem, I decided that my country should have around 18 million people. Agriculture products Fruit and vegetables are not that expensive to grow, but they are expensive to buy if they have been imported. Fortem makes a lot of money through agriculture products, which is very beneficial. Industries The industries in Fortem are mainly agricultural based on its geography and climate. They are good for trading with other countries, which benefits the country by increasing their GDP. Unemployment rates I didn’t want to have the unemployment rates too high, as that does not form a ‘utopian country’. Exports & Imports I just chose a few export and import products and countries. There is no specific reason why I chose some countries and not others. Fortem is also not in debt. Sanctions Trading with North Korea can affect Fortem in a negative way, as it is very unstable. I mentioned the most important laws and basic rights. It gives an overview on how the country’s laws work. This is there, because even though Fortem is a utopian country for me, if the laws did not exist, then it would negatively affect the country.
