Security
It is really safe living in Fortem. The crime rate is very low compared with other countries due to strict laws and hefty punishment. It is safe to let your children play in the public playground without any adult supervision. It is safe to let the children walk to school alone as young as 5 years old. Furthermore, it is also safe to leave the house door unlocked throughout the day, but it is better to lock it in the night. It is generally a really safe country to live in, but staying cautious is better.
Since Fortem left the EU, it has implemented border controls and allows people to enter with valid visas and permits. Fortem has policing at cantonal level and although Fortem is a neutral country, it does have its own armed forces to protect itself in times of conflict.
Military
The military has technically never gone into armed conflict with another country, and whilst Fortem is a neutral country, it has a strong military (land, sea and air) to defend itself. Everyone, men and women, who have completed grade 12 must then complete 2 years of national service or community service or a combination of both. Those wishing to go to university must complete 2 years or national or community service either before or immediately after completing university.
