Government system
Fortem is a democratic country, chosen by its citizens, united by its cantons forming a Confederation of states. Together they form a Federal state with a Federal constitution, sharing duties and cooperating.
Federalism allows Fortem’s cantons and communities to act independently and coordinate their duties within the framework of the constitution.
The constitution and laws of Fortem are modelled on the constitution and laws of its neighbour, Switzerland. The constitution defines the basic rights and basic rules for the inhabitants of Fortem.
As a constitutional state, Fortem has three branches of power: Parliament (to issues laws and supervise the government), Government (to execute laws, govern and represent the state in internal and international affairs) and Judiciary (to judge, trial by jury, sentence, punish and protect). Fortem does not have capital punishment.
The government system in Fortem is a democratic one chosen by its citizens. Democracy gives its citizens more freedom and the right to vote. The citizens have the right to say what they want, and can’t be judged on their choices. Equality is also an important factor. Both women and men can vote. Even though 18 is the legal adult age, citizens of Fortem can vote from the age of 16.
Fortem’s head of state is president and beneath him the prime minister that runs the country with his government.
When Fortem was still part of Italy, they had a democratic system. The government decided to leave it like that, because in their opinion, a democratic system is the best choice for its citizens.
Before Fortem left Italy, they already had the democratic system implemented, before Benito Mussolini started to try and take over the country with his own beliefs. The democratic system worked very well for them, and it did not cause them too many major issues, so they wanted to stay a democratic country, especially after Benito Mussolini came. They wanted to make sure all the ideas from the citizens were taken under consideration, and they wanted to have everyone’s choices put together to vote as a final decision.
The democratic system benefits the country widely, because it gives more equality to the citizens, and lets its citizens vote on what they want the country to become. There is not a specific person that will convince people to vote for certain things, making sure that no one can get influenced by other opinions and can choose exactly what they want. A similar system is implemented in Fortem’s neighbouring country, Switzerland.
